In the past, in an Igbo village, teens and young children were hounded at night by monsters. The villagers made numerous unsuccessful attempts to capture and kill these monstrous beings. Oramma, a beautiful girl, lived with her parents in the same village. She was exceptionally lovely that sovereigns from distant terrains contended to prevail upon her.
Oramma’s parents went to the next village one day and gave her snail and yam to eat. Her folks cautioned her not to take off from the house around evening time due to the perilous beasts that wander the town. Additionally, they advised her to roast the yam prior to the snail because the snail’s water would quench the fire.
One evening, when Oramma’s folks were away, she turned out to be exceptionally eager and made a fire with the last matchstick in the house. Because she wanted meat, Oramma cooked the snail first. She was unable to roast the yam because the fire was put out by the snail’s water. She disobeyed her parents and left the house to get a matchstick from a neighbor because she was still hungry. She encountered a very unattractive monster on her journey who preys on young girls’ beauty. She tried to run, but her legs wouldn’t move. She lost her beauty, but the monster left her with its ugly appearance.
Since that day, the delightful Oramma who was once the discussion of the town presently turned into the monstrous young lady nobody needed to wed.
