Professor Olikoye Ransome-Kuti assigned Tunji Braithwaite to represent the family in February 1977 in order to get Beko and Fela’s release from custody and to pursue legal action against the violent actions of the military administration led by Olusegun Obasanjo. Together with a group of courageous and renowned attorneys, including Mr. Alao Aka-Bashorun, Dr. Olu Onogoruwa, Oba Ayodele Kale, Mr. Tunde Sanu, and Mr. Femi Delumo, Braithwaite took the case all the way from the High Court to the Supreme Court.
This historic lawsuit was crucial in bolstering Nigeria’s enforcement of basic human rights.
The Nigerian Advance Party was founded by pro-democracy activist Tunji Braithwaite. He passed away on March 28, 2016, having been born in September 1933.
