On October 25, 1975, exiled General Yakubu Gowon, his wife Victoria, and their two children, Saratu and Ibrahim (right), were seen on their patio garden in London. General Yakubu Gowon was banished in 1975 following his overthrow by Murtala Mohammed.
As a result, Gowon was Nigeria’s head of state for the longest amount of time, holding the position for nearly nine years until Brigadier Murtala Mohammed overthrew him in a coup in 1975.
