In 1951, Oba Claudius Dosa Akran, a politician from Nigeria and a holder of traditional titles, represented Badagry in parliament and was recognized as Aholu Jiwa II of Jegba.
Prior to gaining independence, he was a part of the Action Group. In 1952, he was named regional minister of local government and economic planning. From 1962 until 1966, he served as the regional minister of finance and was a prominent figure in the party. In 1899, Akran was born into the family of Kopon, who served as the leader of the Badagry Jegba quarters.At the request of a Catholic priest, Akran’s father gave him permission to go to school. He completed his secondary education at King’s College after attending St Gregory’s College in Obalende.
He joined the department in 1926 and left in 1947, spending several years working for the Post and Telegraph development. He was named leader of Jegba quarters in 1950 after his father’s death in 1946, having been nominated in 1948. He served as the Egun-Awori Native Authority’s president as well as a member of the Badagry Town Council as Oba Akran of Badagry. The founding of Badagry Grammar School in 1955—the town’s first secondary school—as well as other developments in the area’s infrastructure, including the post and telegraph, electricity, and road systems, were all influenced by Akran.
