History suggests that the Yoruba and Edo ethnic groups of western Nigeria share a common ancestor and elements in their cultures and traditions that are similar to one another. This is clear in so many ways, from their political systems before colonialism to their languages.
The Yoruba and Edo people believe that they are related by blood and therefore refer to one another as brothers, in addition to being geographically separated. It is important to note that Benins and Edos are both names for the same people. Here is a comprehensive list of all Nigerian tribes.

1. Oba is a Yoruba and Edo/Benin word that means “king.” Oba is the name given to a king in Yoruba land, such as Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III (Alaafin of Oyo), while Oba Ovoramwen Nogbaisi is the name given to a king in Edo land.
2. In both Nigerian languages, the word “baba” means “father.”
3. Yeye is a mean mother in both Nigerian languages, just like baba. In addition to having the same meaning and pronunciation, both tribes’ cultures hold the word and its bearer in high esteem.
4. In both languages, the word “omo” means “child.”
5. Ogede/Oghede means plantain or banana in both Yoruba and Edo, but the edo spelling sometimes includes an “h,” while the Yoruba spelling never does.
6. In Yoruba and Edo, this is referred to as footwear. It’s sometimes referred to as ibata in Edo.
7. Igbo This is an Edo and Yoruba word that means bush.
8. In both languages, Enu Mouth is referred to as enu.
