Nigerian novelist, critic, poet, and professor Albert Chinualumogu Achebe was born on November 16, 1930. Things Fall Apart, his first novel, was the most read work of modern African literature and is regarded as his magnum opus. In Ogodi, an Igbo town in southeast Nigeria, he was raised by his parents. Achebe received a scholarship for undergraduate studies because of his academic excellence. His other novels include No Longer at Ease in 1960, Arrow of God in 1964, A Man of the People in 1966, and The Anthills of the Savannah in 1987. He first gained widespread recognition for his novel “Things Fall Apart” in the late 1950s. In 1967, when Biafra seceded from Nigeria, Chinua Achebe supported the movement for independence. He also served as the Republic of Biafra’s ambassador to other countries. Later, on March 21, 2013, he passed away.
