Former President Olusegun Obasanjo claimed in his contentious 2010 autobiography, My Watch, that he was unaware that his late wife, former First Lady Stella Obasanjo, had been preparing to have her stomach tucked in honor of her 60th birthday. She later died as a result of cosmetic surgery. Obasanjo stated on page 240 of Volume 2 of his book that he discovered the true cause of her death only after she passed away in Spain on October 23, 2005. His words following the cut… I made the decision to investigate her death’s circumstances after the internment. I discovered that she had surgery to improve her shape and stomach as part of her 60th birthday celebration, which I was unaware of.
The former president said that he was able to obtain justice for his wife, who he claimed died as a result of the cosmetic surgeon’s negligence, with the assistance of the Nigerian Embassy in Spain. I gave the order to prosecute the clinic and the doctor. Although the lost life cannot be recovered, a successful prosecution would stop future instances of negligence and fatalities. He said that the doctor’s license was revoked and that the doctor was forced to pay damages that Olu, Stella’s only child, received. He also responded to claims that he sacrificed his wife in order to succeed in office.
“I was not aware of the possibility that I may have killed my wife in order to advance in my career before the Spanish verdict. Some Nigerians may be so vile and demonic in their gossip and mischievous behavior. Obasanjo said.
