Although Dugbe Market was first established in 1919 on the site of a tiny market and slaughter slab, it is thought that Dugbe was originally one of the customary gate markets surrounding the town wall.
However, it gained much more significance when the neighboring railway station was built in 1901, as it was the closest market to the primary long-distance transportation option at the time.
Ultimately, a plan to demarcate a specific area in Ibadan between the current Government land and the Ogunpa stream was put forth in 1919.
