Awolowo was imprisoned in 1963 for plotting to destroy the government, but General Yakubu Gowon granted him a military amnesty in 1966. Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo saw her husband every three days while he was incarcerated till his release. They remained together through thick and thin until old age thanks to their enduring romance, which started in the early 20th century. Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo passed away in 2015 at the age of 100.
