Omashi Iyi Cave is located in Anambra State, Nigeria. The cave, also known as Omashi-Iyi Shrine, is a sacred site and home to Akpo, an oracle believed to have protected the state’s indigenous people.
The Omashi Iyi Cave consists of sections and narrow cracks on the surface and a long tunnel about 1 km long. The cave is home to hundreds of bats, which are considered sacred and have lived there since time immemorial.
The sacred cave lies in the middle of a semicircular stream that forms a basin at the entrance to the cave. There are also large bamboo trees that spread throughout the area, giving it a more sacred atmosphere.
Every year the priest offers a sacrifice to appease the gods and ask for their blessing, and people from all parts of the country visit the cave.
