It’s interesting to see how three childhood pals took turns being in charge. After General Muhammadu Buhari was overthrown in a military coup in 1985, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida took over and ruled until his resignation in 1993, when he handed over control to his ally General Sani Abacha. Abacha held onto power till his untimely demise in 1998.
General Abdulsalami Abubakar, their third friend, became the Head of State upon Abacha’s demise. Between the middle of the 1980s until 1999, when the 20th century came to a close, these three buddies controlled Nigeria together.
